Do You Think That The Contestants On Xfactor Should Know How To Play A Musical Instrument As Well As Sing?
This way they could produce their own music and not rely on voice alone.
X factor is just a singing contest, they should have a music contest where people can apply their talents with instruments.

^^A few examples of all time fantastic singers who didn’t play instruments. I don’t really see your point.
X Factor is basically looking for an simple to market “pop” star. I’m not a huge fan of pop music. I much prefer music with a bit of heart and soul. But pop music is about nice songs sang by nice voices. It what it is, and all the better for it.
They tried a bit more of a talent music contest on the BBC (Fame Academy) and both the show and the winners basically flopped. Except for Lemarr but then, he’s just a singer too!
no, it would be 100x worse than it is now. Who is to say most of them can’t play a bit of piano or guitar already? Elvis could play guitar, he just chose to be more of a showman. Vocals are kind of a musical instrument, you know … it’s not like everyone on x factor are talentless.
I see what you’re getting at, you maybe reckon that it would up the bar a bit and filter out most of the dreadful wannabe’s, but a competition with instruments and vocals or even instruments alone isn’t anywhere as near as viable a tv show because most of the public don’t know much about music really.
generally speaking, people listen to pop and people listen to the vocalist, that’s what they do and if you want a competition with instrumentalists check out local ‘battle of the bands’, just don’t expect it to be televised :p
If they wrote their own songs and played them, I’d take it seriously, but if you did that, you would restrict the competition to people with talent and then we wouldn’t have the sight of thousands of losers entering. The show is about ratings, not talent.
…and I really do reckon they’ve helped allow people to cite Whitney Houston as an example of a fantastic talent, when she is just a terrible spoilt brat yank with a screechy voice.
I wish people who are presented to us as ‘musicians’ like Avril Lavigne really knew how to play the music instead of just following lyrics.
So, yes
One thing at a time , please .
