main things to remember set your adsl wired modem to rfc mode not ppoa or ppoe

    ill repeat rfc bridge mode

then access your router usually 192.168.1.1

    login admin

    password admin

    goto setup

    goto setup

if your modem on wan connection do this in wan section otherwise in 2nd line section

pull down connection type place rfc….

then type your isp login details in login

then type yourpassowrd in password if you ahve been told to use a specific mtu (usllay 1492 or 1472 or 1458 or 1432 or for aol 1400) for your internet key nin manual on mtu

    otherwise leave on auto

    next click save

there are other functions on router but the manual /help will teach you

this firewall works nd takes less than 5 minutes to setup if struggel ring/email lynksys/cisco they have guides on setup

    hope this helps

Before you buy, seek professional advise – that’s all I can say about this product. Bought in conjunction with a Linksys ADSL2 modem I expected this to be pretty much plug and play. After a day of my time adjusting settings etc to try and get the router to recognise the modem and vice versa I called in a professional IT consultant at £60/hr. After 4 hours there is only very limited progress and the VPN element is proving impossible to resolve.

Contrary to the other reviews we installed the 4 port version of this router (RV042) which I reckon is the same as the RV082 but minus 4 ports and had absolutely no problem setting the whole thing up. I cant see what is so hard about this, if your professional IT consultant doesnt know where to start with this I would find another consultant.

You get an dreadful lot for your money with these routers, ours works fantastic and offers brilliant performance and reliability for small businesses who rely heavily on internet access.

If the RV082 is completely different to the RV042 and is impossible to setup then I take it all back and apologise!

After reading the previous users comment he is right, this is not designed for the casual networking user, this, although it is a Linksys product is meant to be set up by a trained network professional, most IT Consultants, that I have come across don’t even know where to start, this is a fantastic product, but you will need someone who know what they are doing to set it up, ensure they are Cisco Qualified as well!

Albeit I do recommend this product for the small network office!
