We personally would never, ever buy any other television without the Sony name on it, a bit like boarding a plane and seeing the Rolls Royce engine there !!! You know that you are in safe hands.
We bought this 26 inch for our kitchen and its just superb, picture quality is just what you would expect and more from Sony. The price was an incredible £150 cheaper than Argos, Comet and Currys.
Our television in the lounge is a 40 inch Sony and yet again another superb television, it does everything !!! We gave our 32 inch 4 year ancient Sony to my Dad and it still looks groundbreaking new – so treat yourself to an brilliant television and years of realibilty; We are sure, like us you will need to update it before anything will go incorrect with it.
I really had a 14 inch portable Sony way back in 1979 and the picture ( tube ) eventually started to fail in 2003, so I definately had my moneys worth on that small one !!
Hopefully you will also experience years of owning a fantastic product.
Pleased Sony Ownership !!

I have had Sony tv sets since the eighties. What more can you say abut them brilliant in all areas and that’s what I find with this new one.

After full digital switchover and national Freeview re-tune on Sept 30, I chose to replace my ageing (15y.o.) Sony KV-X2172U HiBlack Trinitron CRT TV that was doing service in our breakfast room. This was less to do with the set; rather more to do with the associated Panasonic TU-CT20 digibox that just could not cope with the changeover and all the new channels (99 in all). It had, as Eric M would have said, “all the right stations, not necessarily in the right order!” All this despite many re-tunes – even resorting to factory re-set. All to no avail. So it had to go.
So, having read all the reviews on Amazon about the KDL 26S5500, chose to buy it. And boy was that a excellent choice. It arrived safely by City Link and within 10 minutes it was up and running: tuning was a doddle – afterall I’d had enough practise in previous months. I let it settle down to “burn itself in” (Hi-Fi addicts will know what I mean) before deciding that I did need to slightly amend the factory settings to get a perfect (to my eyes) picture.
It had now been operating for some four weeks and I’m delighted with it. I’ve not experienced the snag that others have but that is mainly because I don’t often leave it on standby. Power consumption on standby is low but it still uses power: so why would you? It takes 10 seconds to boot up for cold. Not too long to wait I’d submit. Of course, I would accept that Sony are incorrect to ship with a known fault but if it is one that is circumnavigable – so what. Seems like the Humax PVR 9300T fan noise problem to me. BTW I have mine set to Ecopower – don’t know whether this makes a difference to standby
The EPG is excellent and seems to load quickly from BBC1 – indeed quicker tham my Humax PVR 9300T and I find it is simple to read. Sound is excellent and really excellent played through my NAD C352 amp and Linn Kan speakers.
As I said picture quality is excellent but in all honesty not as excellent as my main TV – a Sony Art Couture 28″ flatscreen CRT – but since this is 100Hz rather than the 50Hz of this 26″ model.
Have not had a chance to connect the Humax up to it using HDMI so may even get better picture that way. Also have not got a BluRay player yet so don’t know what HD is really like but Freeview is pretty excellent. Fascinating that Sony are now brnging out a new range of TVs with in-built Freesat. Maybe HD on Freeview is on hold?
Overall, I’d recommend this Sony TV to anyone. Maybe I’ll treat myself to the Sony 37″ 100Hz Motionflow for the main TV?

This is the 3rd Sony Bravia we have in the house now. This like the other two is an all round brilliant product. The only glitch with this particular model is that the remote control will not work once the TV has been on standby for a few hours(over night). You have to use the buttons on the side to fire it back to life.

Fantastic TV, prefer my last one if am honest mainly the quality feel. Remote is light no weight like the last Sony TV. There is a known Fault buyers be ware! When the TV is on Standby overnight it will not switch on from the remote. I reckon I will return mine! Overall though I pleased with picture quality!
